Some of Northern Ireland’s most established businesses are taking a fresh look at how they power their future and Coleman's Garden Centre is a perfect example of this shift in action.

A business that has been at the heart of the local community for over 60 years, Coleman’s has built a strong reputation for quality, service and longevity. Now, they are building on that legacy by making a significant investment in renewable energy.

A Smart Step Towards Sustainability

Team Solmatix recently completed the installation of a 221kWp Solar PV system at the Templepatrick site, designed to deliver both immediate and long-term benefits.

The system includes:

  • 509 high-efficiency panels from LONGi Solar

  • A robust on-roof mounting system

  • Advanced inverter technology from SMA Solar Technology

This installation will enable Coleman’s to significantly reduce its reliance on grid electricity, lower operational energy costs and cut carbon emissions, all while strengthening the resilience of the business against rising energy prices.

Supporting Forward-Thinking Local Businesses

Projects like this highlight a growing trend across Northern Ireland: established, family-run and legacy businesses are embracing renewable energy not just as a sustainability measure, but as a smart commercial decision.

As Neville Bell, commented:

“It’s incredibly encouraging to see well-established businesses like Coleman’s taking proactive steps to future-proof their operations. This project is a great example of how solar can deliver real commercial value while also supporting long-term sustainability goals. At Solmatix, we’re proud to partner with businesses that are thinking ahead and investing in their future.”

A Milestone Moment for Coleman’s

As part of the project, Richard Fry, Director at Coleman’s, described the installation as a key milestone in the company’s ongoing sustainability journey a reflection of their commitment to evolving with the times while remaining rooted in the community they serve.

For Solmatix, this project represents exactly what the business is about: helping organisations make confident, informed investments in energy solutions that deliver measurable impact.

Looking Ahead

As more organisations across Northern Ireland, the UK and Ireland face into rising energy costs and increasing environmental responsibility, projects like Coleman’s demonstrate what’s possible.

By combining heritage with innovation, businesses can not only protect their future but strengthen it.
